Koh Phangan World Original Full Moon Party – Entrance Fee 100 THB!

Over the last couple of months the top secret and totally hidden Koh Phangan Island News Headquarters received various reports from different reliable Island sources stating that a Full Moon Party entrance fee is now being charged at the pier to Koh Samui Island at Had Rin sunset beach.

In September 2008, during the night of the world in-famous Full Moon Party at Haadrin beach, Koh Phangan Island News headquarters finally decided to sent down an experienced team of un-corrupted douche bags to further investigate into that fresh island rumor to finally reveal the awful truth.

Welcome World Original Full Moon Party Entry Please Show Ticket” by Haadrin Business Association.

World Original Full Moon Party Ticket for sale 100 THB – For used to keep the beach clean & secure” by Haadrin Business Association.

Big and massive signs in bright blue and red color now welcome the unsuspecting Full Moon Party tourists from Koh Samui Island at Hadrin pier. The entire entrance area at Hadrin pier is completely sealed off and securely shut down and additionally guarded by a special Koh Phangan Security force to ensure that a mandatory entrance fee of 100 THB is strictly enforced on any tourist arriving at the pier from neighboring Koh Samui Island via high speed boat.

Koh Phangan Island News undercover agents further reported an unknown Israeli tourist directly at the Full Moon Party entrance gate working closely together with the Hadrin Business Association by assisting in answering questions to the unsuspecting Full Moon Party tourists arriving from Koh Samui Island.

General questions being asked: Why do we have to pay? We never had to pay! Why do we have to pay an entrance fee now? What’s this entrance fee all about? What’s the entrance fee being used for?

Curiously, Koh Phangan Island News agents then went to the main Full Moon Party Zone at Hadrin beach sunrise site to additionally investigate into the new ‘secure the beach campaign’ but unfortunately haven’t been able to find only a single Phangan Security Guard patrolling the beach looking for potential Full Moon drunks desperate for a relaxed & refreshing swim in the ocean with its strong undercurrents.

Various tourists have been reported drowned over the last couple of years during the Full Moon Party night so Koh Phangan Island News headquarters was pleasantly surprised that finally an effort has been made to protect and help the Full Moon Party tourists in case of an accident, emergency or danger. But unfortunately the whole ‘secure the beach’ campaign by local Hadrin Business Association could be probably seen as a massive scam as not a single Koh Phangan Special Security Force guard could be found at the main Full Moon Party Zone at the sunrise site of world famous Had Rin beach.

Additional reports have also been reconfirmed by Koh Phangan Island News agents that the official ‘Sleeping Area’, which has been promoted in the past to provide a secure and guarded area for the exhausted Full Moon Party tourist, is now finally being totally removed from the party beach and can no longer be found anywhere.

Asking the Hadrin Business Association about the total lack of any Koh Phangan Security Guards at the main Full Moon Party beach zone was firstly answered with a bright smile and after insisting questions Koh Phangan Island News headquarters were finally told to please shut up as the last guy who asked too many stupid questions has now finally disappeared. A threat? Another expression of intent to damage or injure our right of free speech? You better decide!

Worth mentioning is also the fact that the mandatory Full Moon Party entrance fee of 100 THB is only strictly enforced on the tourists arriving from Koh Samui Island. All other Full Moon Party entry ports are free of charge so you better have a look around.

Koh Phangan Security Check Point

In general Koh Phangan Island News supports the idea of a mandatory entrance fee to help secure the beach and protect the Full Moon Party tourists in case of an emergency, accident or any danger. Possibly non-corrupt security guards or a free medic first aid center offering free treatment & instant help in case of an emergency like …

* Tourist overdosing on mind altering substances
* Tourist drowning in the ocean
* Tourist being stabbed by local Thai teenage gangs
* Tourist being shot by local Thai mafia
* Tourist being raped
* Etc, etc, etc …

Emphasis here is on FREE!

Our recent observations at the entrance gate during the Full Moon Party night estimated an average income of a few hundred thousand Thai Baht during the night. Money generously paid by the unsuspecting tourist arriving at the World Original Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan Island.

Money that could be used wisely to provide non-corrupted security guards and free medical first aid centers. Something which is indeed mandatory at any big techno rave in the western world.

But our private investigations finally exposed that none of the above claims by the Hadrin Business Association actually do exist and can therefore be seen as pure island fiction, imagination or fake campaign with no basis in fact. Another massive scam? You better decide!

Though we did find some improvements – brand new Full Moon Party Rubbish bins!

    1. First question is who are the Haadrin Business Association? Who are they and who are their leaders?
    2. Second question how owns the pier – is it the boss of the Haadrin Business Association?
3, Third question is say if 3,000 tourists come through the pier then thats 300,000 baht. What does it cost to get some burmese to clean the beach and how much do the ‘guards’ get paid as average wage for this type of Thai is around 200 baht per day per person! Thats a lot of profit every month to the so called ‘ H-B-A.’
    4. Where’s the accounts to prove where the money goes? If there’s a commitee surely there are accounts too?
    5. Who is this Israli guy? Does he have a work permit because if he does not I advise everyone of you who has been forced to pay this 100B entrance fee to contact Thai Immigration in Surat Thani (forget Samui Immigration as they are corrupt and have friends & family on Phangan) and investigate him to see if he is working illegally. Even better if you see him in Haadrin ask him to show you his work permit!!! He may think he is protected by Haadrin police but immigration have more power and they know Haadrin Police are corrupt!
    6. There were no security people on the beach and there have been reports of a gun incident, many bags pulled off tourists, beer bottles smashed over tourists heads, rooms broken into. If the H-B-A is making so much money why don’t they use some of the money to clean up the problems at this party and put security guards on the beach?

In conclusion, no problems charging money to use Haadrin Pier ( as it is privately owned) but please at least get the so called H-B-A to use some of the money for say 50 security guards on the beach at FMP – here’s the math … 50 x 200baht = 10,000baht! Wow! That means the HBA still makes 290,000 baht profit and thats if only 3,000 tourists for FMP in low season!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT, If your going to be a criminal then please be a smart criminal as the figures simply don’t add up!!!! You are blatently ripping off tourists! And that is bad! Give something back to the people who spend money in your fucking town you greedy people in the Hadrin Business Association !!!!

IVE BEEN TOLD BY FRIENDS WHO ARE IN HAADRIN THAT ALL THE BARRIER PEOPLE ARE VOLUNTEERS FROM BUSINESSES IN HAADRIN – THEY DONT GET PAID!!!! THE POLICE ARE POLICE WHO ARE PAID BY THE STATE. SO WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY GOING … NO BUSINESSES IN HADRIN BENEFIT FROM ANY OF THESE DONATIONS.. I ALSO ASK WHO IS THIS COMMITEE. THEY NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED.

Just to be correct here and probably a bit over precise and to not to publish any false information and accusing anyone of doing anything illegal!

The israeli guy does NOT take any money from any tourist arriving at the hadrin pier!

He purely acted as a sort of interpreter / translator that night while I observed him and NEVER personally took any money from anyone!

This is really important guys … i don’t want to accuse anyone here so just keep things in line while posting comments … which are of course more than welcome.

Also I don’t have any idea if the Israeli guy has a working permit or does illegal work. Fact is he was the main contact person for the tourists arriving that night and any questions regarding the new Full Moon Party entrance fee were answered by him.

Of course he’s under the cover of the so called Hadrin Business Association but simply blaming him alone for anything is not a good choice.

So … please keep posting your thoughts about this subject but best in the right context – thanks!

    All the best & fun

From my recollections the pier in Haad Rin was built a few years ago as a PUBLIC pier by the government, replacing the previous dodgy wooden pier built many moons ago by the land owner (Rin Beach resort?). SO, i don’t see why anyone should have to pay to use the pier or its facilities, However i do know that use of the pier by private boats is actively discouraged by the “owner”.

Sounds to me like a “TAX” is being extracted from all the people who don’t use the 200 baht “Official” ferry, which incidentally is “owned and operated” by the Supposed “owner” of the Pier !!!

    Mmmm Food for thought….

She is the one married to a Hadrin cop right? I hear she is pretty evil and they involved in corruption and some bad shit along with the Thai guy who owns Siam Spa ya. I heard they are the one’s giving problems to many western run businesses in Hadrin. So these people are part the Haadrin Buisness Committee me thinks?

I actually agree with this in principal! ok lot of the money wont go towards keeping the beach clean and secure, but thats the way in s e asia if it was like the west i wouldnt want to go there! these people who are getting charged 100bt are paying a fortune for a speed boat and apart from what they drink arent putting any money into the islands economy so why shouldnt they contribute something!!

    Reply
    • Becki

Awesome 😉 That’s probably the best idea I’ve heard so far. So why not just charge anyone who steps a foot on ‘Koh Phangan Paradise Island’ … well … let’s say a standard Koh Phangan Tourist Fee of 500 THB per person as a warm welcome treat!

      Reply
    • Anonymous

Well … sorry … but your comment about this contribution just cracked me up laughing and is indeed mind blowing for me to actually realize what is going on in the mind of the local Thais on Koh Phangan.

So .. mandatory Koh Phangan Tourist Entrance Fee of 500 THB is fine … but I even got a better idea … watch this …

So it’s all about contributing to Phangan’s island economy! Hmh … why don’t you setup some sort of minimum amount of money a tourist has to spend while on this paradise island?

Let’s say … 10.000 THB per person / day … including accommodation, food, taxis, boats, buckets, hookers, gift shopping, thai massage, etc, etc …

Once a tourist decides to leave he / she has to show up in the island economy office and provide an exact list of money spend in paradise and if the amount doesn’t reach the mandatory daily demand of 10.000 THB per person / day then you just squeeze the rest out of the tourist! Otherwise the ‘farang’ will be charged guilty and is send directly to prison as he / she didn’t contribute enough to the fragile island economy system!

Doesn’t this sound like heaven to you 🙂

I think it really is time that you all WAKE UP NOW!!!

      greetings

Actually i wrote the comment about contributing and im welsh and based in the uk at the mo but am a regular to phangan, if these people can afford a speed boat 100bt aint nothing! Unfortunate for the people who have allready visited or are going to, as for all the package tourists who pop over from samui who can blame the locals for wanting to make a few baht out of them good enough for them! Do think they should use the money effectively though which it probaly wont be, also becki are you sure that between 3 and 10 000 people come by speed boat sounds an awful lot??

    Hi all,

I am also a regular visitor to Koh Phangan.

According to reliable sources a couple of months ago the businesses in Haad Rin where asked for a fee to keep the beach clean and security for the full moons, a beach bar was apparently charged 2000THB while a jewellery shop was charged 600THB. It was all good until the same people came to collect money for the next month, when the businesses started to protest since they thought it was fine with an annual fee but not with a monthly.

So the people who collected the money had to rethink and then setted up the entrance gate for all the visitors from Koh Samui. The first try out was for the august full moon, but no signs where up and it created some protests amongst the visitors. For the September full moon they prepared better as you can see with sign and clear explanations.

It is important to emphasize two important details that Becki missed to point out. Thai people and farang both had to pay! And if you arrived with a lot of luggage and clearly intended to stay at the island for longer than just the full moon you were NOT charged the entrance fee.

Personally I think it is a good idea to raise money to keep the beach clean and improve the security (both factors have improved significantly compared to a few years back, but then they were also less needed). Is the beach cleaned after the full moon, yes it is! Do you see that military boat bouyoed off the haad rin nok beach (sometimes several), thats the navy, and they come and clean the beach in the morning. I have seen it with my own eyes.

Is it good to collect money from the Koh Samui visitors? Not sure about this one… but people who only come for full moon surely contribute less to the island economics than the regular visitor that at least stays for a couple of nights.

And lastly… large amount of money is being made. Let’s focus more on first of all making the accounting visible for the public. And then use the profit things that brings value for the general public at Koh Phangan.

Keep up the good work Becki! I hope you could write up about the latest shit going on in Haad Rin. A couple of months ago thai people were not allowed toenter the coral bungalows pool party anymore. During this full moon… I heard from reliable sources (couldn’t verify it by myself though) that thai people were not longer welcome at the famous backyard after party. What kind of bull shit is this? If would be a local resident of Koh Phangan I would protest loudly. Please verify this story for us Becki and let us know what the real reasons are (apparantly thefts where occuring, so thai people was accused as the problem bringers).

    Cheers.

      Hi mike,

thanks for your comment. so …. let’s see … one point is true. both thai and farang have to pay entrance fee. Next … i’ve seen arriving a few tourists with luggage and stuff and clearly intented to stay for a few days. Well … bad luck … they were also being charged an entrance fee! I’ve seen it with my own eyes.

Raise money to keep the beach clean and secure? Hmhm … in my opinion TOTAL bullshit and just another fake campaign if you ask me.

Improved security at the beach! Are you kidding … haven’t seen or met a single security guard that night.

Also have never seen the navy cleaning up the beach but if you have seen them … awesome!

Profits being used to improve the service value for the general public? Making the accounting visible for the public? Well … sounds all great .. BUT … well you know 😉

Main point for me are all these fake campaigns. Why not just tell anyone what this really is all about? The money goes into the pockets of a few super rich bastards without improving anything at all for the tourists! Just stop making these false claims and tell things how they actually are …

And yes … local thais are no longer allowed at Backyard Club after party! Probably those drunken I belong to a mafia type family thai locals were just causing too many problems? who knows?

my final point here is …

without the farangs / tourists the local Hadrin business community would have never gotten that rich over the last couple of years. So please start treating the poor unsuspecting tourists with some respect and dignity again otherwise the word might spread around and the Hadrin / Phangan community might sooner or later get what they deserve.

Phangan depends on tourists so please show some respect again. This is what made Thailand a world famous travel destination and if things will not improve in the future Phangan might become world famous as a ‘let’s just fucking rip off those bloody farangs’ destination!

      point made?

      all the best & fun

and what about setting a fence all around hadrin at every full moon party and make everyone pay,and also at every entrance put guards to decide who is qualified to enter to the party and who not, like the posh clubs in europe,i think it’s a good idea, and if someone wants to do it,please send me the royalties……….

buckets are not for free, neither the drugs, neither the accomodation, neither the food, that’s how things are, even if the money if for the owner of hadrin i think they should charge, and make a huge port at sunset beach so i can go with my yatch to drink champagne instead of som som,of course you are invited to my yatch becki………

ok becki,i’m working on it,i’ll let you know, for the moment i only got a pirogue, but i’m optimistic and i have some promising ideas to raise funds for the yatch………..

maybe we could make like a gambling poll for people to bet before evry full moon, like gambling……….

1.at what time do you think will the first chang bottle will fly through the air at the backyard afterparty(always around sunset time will pay less)
and the one who gets closer to the time the first bottle fly wins the pot!

we can even associate we the local thai maffia,i think we could make good money,by knowing before hand who and at what time will through the bottle!!!!!!!!!!

    2.how many gunfights will be…….2
    at what time?

3.how many pills will be taken?

    4.how many people will overdose?

5.how many people will piuck their livers at the beach?

6.the run of possible bets is endlesss but i will stop here because some people who had bad experiences at the fmp will get angry and that’s not my intention,i should restrict my dark sense of humor for people who know me better…….

anyway,PLEASE DO THE WHOLE HUMANKIND A FAVOUR AND STOP THAt FULL MOON PARTY ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that;s not a party anymore,i don’t know how to call it but for sure it has nothing to do with a party, neither with fun……………..

keep posting stuff often as now becki, you are providing a good source of fun for people who are not in koh phangan and want to know what’s going on there, don’t let the people with very limited point of view discourage you……….BE MUCH MORE ACID,FUN,CRITICAL AND CYNICAL AS YOU ARE FACE TO FACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is sad to see this website promoting so many bad things about Koh Phangan.

Its a good website but is not balanced or fair – it seems to give one side to everything – a negative side and the people posting on the site have the same mind frame unfortunately.

These things happen to a very small percentage of travellers and I would suggest a more balanced view and Im sure worse things happen every weekend in major cities accross Europe.

Why not promote some positive things about Koh Phangan as many people who visit have a great time with no problems.

This website is scaring people away from the island and this is bad for Koh Phangan as its such a beautiful island with many nice places where there are no problems.

You always seem to talk about Partys – many of the people who visit here come for the parties and these people party every weekend when they are at home so whats the problem? You live near one of the partys I think, so your view is not balenced. This is what attracts people to Koh Phangan.

You talk about bad police & corruption – this normally doesnt affect tourists – okay maybe some, but why always talk negative about this and not promote a more positive approach about warnings and prevention.

You should set up two websites – one for the locals for them to have good a moan about their issues on the island and another one to promote the island to tourists and what to be careful of. The two types of readers of your website are not the same and do not experience the same things on the island!!

I really think this website is not doing anything positive for tourists coming to the island … you are really a local news media for local people … you should therefore market it this way.

I want to keep this posting positive as I think an independant news site is good but I think it is being marketed wrong.

Remember, this is Asia and like Africa and other simelar places, there will alsways be corruption, money greed and theft.

I think while the intentions are good, the operator of this site should maybe be careful as some of the postings and images on the site appear very anti-local government, anti-police and anti-koh Phangan. This I think is pretty scary especially in Thailand which has laws against bad promotion of King and country!

I hope my commenst are taken positively and maybe consideration given to who this website is marketed to?

So you are suggesting to write only about the “nice” things of Koh Phangan? Like all the other >1000 Websites do already? What a bull crap … Becki’s site is the only ones that writes about real facts here … and if the police and local official are famous for their corruption and criminal activity why don’t write about it … it concerns everyone … tourists and locals.

Let me guess … you are one of these small time farang business owners (let me guess … ‘Ladybar’ ?) that nobody will know about in a few years anymore … and now you are worried because of the bad influence of this site on your own little business. Let me tell you … it does not matter your shitty buisness would not work even if becki writes about Phangan as ‘Eden on Earth’.

I think this site is marketed just right … to everyone that is interested in Koh Phangan.

I hope that the local mafia thungs are continuing to be illiterate dumb shit heads that can not use a internet browser, so this site keeps delivering the truth about this paradise island … or open up a second one … anonymous … for the real tough news

About the “No Entry for Locals” … great … thats the best idea they had in years … just a small modification … it would be enough to keep the male local population outside … I never saw any girl here with a gun or knife …

Or at least leave it only in Haad Rin and build a wall around.
This island is beautifull enough without:
    “Kids on drugs and buckets!!!”
I think 500 THB per person is better, so they can buy more rubbish bins!!!

Love this website, as it keeps me updated with whats happening!! still got lots of friends on the island, both farrang and thai, and a few of the unsavoury thais. but after 2 years of living on the island i havnt been back for 2 years cos its turned into a complete shit hole!! well had riin has anyways!! it just seems that this place is getting worse and worse, and i blame the tourists myself, cos if it wasnt for them taking the piss all of the time (and before you say anything i know its only a small minority) and thats why the thais have started being the way that they now are. people have to understand that the young thais who are going around causing all the problems have grown up watching farrang make a tit of themselves all day and night 365 days a year!!! its no wonder that the thais are now starting to take the piss back!! its the same in towns and cities all over the world in the sense that if you had people come into your place / town etc and take the piss there is only so much you are going to take before you have had enough!! its time for the farrang to start having some respect and to just stop all the moaning that happens on here and just get on with it, because when i lived there it was paradise but i saw the mood of the island changing and moved to samui!! farrang and thais have to work together on this to make it attractive for everyone to go back again!! – i know the uk foriegn office are urging people not to go there, and if they are doing it then i guess others are aswell!! time to wake up people and get on with it
