Hello there and welcome back to Koh Phangan Island News – the one and only independent newspaper reporting the awful truth about Koh Phangan Paradise Island.
Two weeks ago we celebrated another infamous Full Moon Party at world famous Hadrin beach and in the aftermath we had quite some amazing gossip about the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) showing up on Koh Phangan Island and furthermore non-confirmed rumors about some arrests of local police cops which were involved doing some nasty drug trade business on the Island of Madness, formerly also known as Koh Phangan Paradise Island.
So this article can be seen as pure, 100%, Koh Phangan Island gossip as you probably will never find any official documents in some police department. But this funny and hilarious story was brought to us by various reliable island sources and therefore deserves being posted and published on Koh Phangan Island News.
Apparently, during the last Full Moon Party period in February 2009, the local Royal Thai Police from Koh Phangan arrested a taxi car driver, who was in possession of a few YaBa Pills, locally known as ‘crazy medicine’ containing a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine.

Well not exactly free, but as about as close as you can get. Buy this seaworthy longtail boat built here on the island, have fun, explore the islands and nearby marine park, camp on deserted beaches, fish, dive, cruise, even sleep on this little beauty, and when you’re done with her, sell her for what you paid for her and be on your way ! That’s having your cake (fun) and eating it too !!
This boat is built of “Mai Dtakien”, sure it’s expensive, but it’s the best boat building timber you can get. Not available on the island, this timber was specially ordered and shipped over from the mainland. This boat will last a lifetime. She has a 5.5 meter keel and is 7 meters overall length. Unlike most island longtail boats she is designed with an upright prow like the big fishing boats that really cuts through the waves, rather than slapping into them.
The power plant is an ultra reliable petrol burning Honda 20 H.P. V-twin 4 stroke that is just one year old. Most boats this size use an 8 or 11 H.P. motor so you’ve got plenty of power to spare. It’s coupled to a Daihatsu gearbox, built by “Sowit” the best engineer on the mainland, giving forward and reverse gear. This is the only boat on the island with a gearbox. Standard Thai longtails have a dual chain with sprocket setup that slings oil, needs constant adjustment, and they are really more trouble than they are worth, although they are very cheap and this is why the Thais use them. Again the gearbox is more expensive, but well worth it for reliability and no hassles in the long run. Reverse gear is really handy for backing away from that hidden coral head when you need it too !
