Sawadee Khrap & a warm and happy welcome to Koh Phangan Island News – the one and only online magazine offering fresh and up-to-date news about Koh Phangan Paradise Island in the South of Thailand.
Again … hopefully our dear gutter press readers won’t be that disappointed ;-) … Koh Phangan Island News headquarters got indeed more positive news about the Island Of Madness, formerly also well known as Koh Phangan Paradise Island.
This time we received an invitation from the Circus Bar – The one and only German Beer Garden on Koh Phangan Island!
The Circus Bar is run by Martin, a really friendly, helpful and outstanding guy from Germany, Munich. The Circus Bar started a few years back at a very remote location hidden around Baan Tai village but since this year’s high season the Circus Bar has finally moved to a more popular location close to Thongsala main town.
Its location is quite easy to find. Just leave Thongsala towards Baan Tai / Haadrin Beach on the main road. Pass the hooker bars on the left or just stop by for a few minutes if you feel a desperate urge. Then cross the bridge and after about 100 meters you will see a red sign with green letters on the left hand site welcoming you to the Circus Bar.

Greetings and a happy & warm welcome to Koh Phangan Island News, still the one and only website offering fresh & up-to-date news about the Island Of Madness, formerly also known as Koh Phangan Paradise Island in the Gulf of Thailand.
After the recent massive responds to our article about the Same-Same Burger House at Hadrin Beach Koh Pha-Ngan and all the posted surreptitious advertizing about ‘John’s Place’ our Senior Food Analyst from Koh Phangan News headquarters, Fred van den StillLonelyLookingForHotChicks, went on an investigative mission to find out the awful truth about one of the islands most famous Sunday Roasts.
Welcomed by Sir John 1st and his sweaty armpits we were quite amazed by the friendly and relaxed atmosphere John’s Bar & Bistro has to offer. The ambient in the restaurant was real pleasant and warm thanks to our great hosts John 1st & John 2nd and also the wooden interior which made you feel cozy and comfortable.
Main focus of interest was the Sunday Roast which comes in different styles and flavors like chicken, pork, beef or lamb with all the trimmings and whistles starting from 195 THB. The Sunday Roast was well prepared and quickly served by Sir Chef John 2nd and the quality of the roast was good, tasty and fresh.

Bonjour … common ca va? Mon nom est Becki and today I would like to introduce you to the tasteful world of two French monsieurs named Philip and Nico from the French Restaurant L’Embuscade here on Koh Pha-Ngan, the island of madness, in the Gulf of Thailand.
The Restaurant Francaise L’Embuscade first opened about 6 months ago and is run and managed by monsieur Philip. He originally comes from Cannes, a city in the South of France, famous for its delicious and mouthwatering French specialties. Philip also is a certified chef with many years of experience in Switzerland.
After a few times holiday in Thailand over the last 6 years Philip finally realized that the French government actually charged him far too much tax on his monthly income. Therefore he decided to say au revoir to the French tax system and finally moved over to a far better place on the other site of the globe, called Koh Phangan, also well known as the island of madness.
Philip offers every day new specialities francaise, menus and a la carte dishes with an emphasis on good and always fresh ingredients. Some examples from today’s menu would be Filet Mignon de Porc, Blanquette de Poulet or even some Magre de Canard which sounds lovely but actually Becki has no idea what this means as my French is not that liquid. And to be honest Becki hasn’t tried any of the French specialities from chef Philip yet, but I promise to do so and will keep you updated!

Freshly opened since a couple of weeks here on Koh Phangan Paradise Island is the new restaurant Peppercorn which offers delicious western food like beef, lamb and pork steaks & salads, schnitzel, goulash, Italian pasta and also vegetarian food.
Our friendly host and chef Friddi from Peppercorn first started his tropical career here on the island of madness, called Koh Pha-Ngan, about 5 to 6 years ago as a dive instructor at Haad Yao Diver Koh Phangan which offers, by the way, excellent PADI Courses and Scuba Fun Diving Trips in the Gulf of Thailand.
Then a couple of months ago, Friddi read those fascinating articles in the Asia Dive Magazine, saying 'Divers die younger!' and 'Too much diving can lower your sperm activity by 67%!' and suddenly he decided to change his master agenda and focus on a more safe and secure business opportunity.
So the Restaurant Peppercorn was born and Friddi's sperm activity went up to normal again. Awesome!
The Restaurant Peppercorn is open 6 days a week, closed on tuesday, and offers daily specials like German Sausages (Thüringer Rostbratwurst) with potato salad for a very affordable 140 Thai Baht only.
Becki already went twice there with some friends of mine and can personally recommend the schnitzel with mushroom sauce. A Jägerschnitzel like we say in Germany. Last night Becki tried the Lasagne 'Original Friddi Style' and it was indeed yum yum as promised in the menu. Though Becki would have really appreciated a bigger portion as it was so delicious.

A small restaurant tucked away in the heart of Baan Tai produces the best sum tam on Koh Pha-Ngan Paradise Island.
Careful to stipulate that you want your dish ‘mai paet’ if you do not like spicy food. Located approximately 500 meters from the 7-11, going towards Tong Sala, the small restaurant has a very warm homely feeling. Probably due to the fact, that the restaurant is in there living room.
It just adds to the flavor of the food and it is refreshing to not be in the ‘high society’ class of restaurants many restaurants strive for. The price is also quite evidently reflected in the modest surroundings.
“Sum Tam” is a traditional Thai dish made from papaya, tomatoes, sugar, chilies, salad shrimp, peanuts, oil, green beans and other delicious ingredients only the master chef is aware of. The dish is served with a glass of ice water, cut green beans, cucumber and sticky rice.

‘Lord have mercy on the people in England for the terrible food these people must eat! And may the lord have mercy on the faith of this website ;-) and god bless the mind of the man in the street!’
These very wise words sang by an even more wise man named Frank Zappa on his album ‘200 Motels’ in the late 70’s, might have probably inspired our Koh Pha-Ngan Island chef John Peter ‘Fat Gino’ Sanders, who’s of course British by the way ;-)
So … inspired by those wise words John Peter ‘Fat Gino’ Sanders decided to lighten up the bad reputation of English cooking and opened his ‘Phangan Island Gourmet’ shop a couple of months ago. ‘Phangan Island Gourmet’ offers English Pies in all its different variations filled with beef, mushroom, ham, sweet corn, kidney, mixed vegetables and also blue cheese. Also on the ‘Phangan Island Gourmet’ menu are main dishes like lasagne, chilli con carne, Yorkshire pudding and as desserts there’s the option of apple pie, pumpkin pie and the world famous chocolate mousse made from real Swiss chocolate.
