Several adjacent houses were also gutted in the two hour fire that broke out at 01.00 am Friday, 14th May 2015. Nobody was injured or killed in the inferno that raged the popular bar to charred remains.
The house which was turned into a bar and restaurant was popular among Full Moon party tourists. It was located at Village Group 6 in Tambon Ban Tai of Koh Phangan district.
Koh Phangan sinks all but Full Moon Party
“Party Central“, also known as Koh Phangan, has become “Party Pooper“. From now, only Full Moon Parties will be allowed on the immensely popular resort island. That means no more dark moon parties, jungle parties, half moon parties, black moon parties, shiva moon parties and the like.
Koh Phangan district office on Sunday officially announced the party ban which affects the entire Surat Thani island immediately.
District chief Kriak-krai Songthani said the ban followed complaints by island residents about noisy parties which disturbed their way of life.

The Royal Thai Navy has controversially refused to let a ferry full of backpackers land on Thai soil
The Royal Thai Navy has controversially refused to let a ferry full of backpackers, island party-goers, and other low-budget tourists land on Thai soil, citing national security reasons and issues of Thai sovereignty.
The Phangan Prince, a diesel-powered 150-seat wooden boat operated by the Full Moon Island Tour company, departed from Bophut pier on Koh Samui at 8:30am Thursday, but was intercepted on route to its destination at Haad Rin beach by a Thai naval destroyer. The naval ship hailed the ferry captain and ordered it to turn around. However, once it re-approached Bophut pier another smaller navy gunboat blocked its path and fired warning shots across the ferry’s bow, startling the approximately 320 foreigners aboard.

A screen shot of the now-deleted Facebook page selling homemade marijuana bongs
Police have arrested two Russians who allegedly sold homemade marijuana bongs via a Facebook page on the southern island of Koh Pha-Ngan.
The arrest followed a police investigation into a now-deleted Facebook page, called Bong Russian Boss, which advertised homemade bamboo bongs and featured photos of the seller lying down in what appears to be marijuana plants.
The Facebook page claimed to be operated by Russians on Koh Pha-Ngan – an island in the Gulf of Thailand known for its raucous, drug-fueled monthly Full Moon Parties.
Massive gold reserve has been discovered on Koh Phangan Island
On Wednesday morning, 1st of April 2015, senior officials announced that a massive gold reserve has been discovered not far from the surface on the island of Koh Phangan in the south of Thailand.
Geologists, who originally came to the area working for an oil and gas company exploration into oil reserves in the Gulf five years ago, abandoned their posts after studying the type and formation of the rocks in the region.
The team of five experts discovered the possibility of large gold reserves close to the site of the new airport, but found a far more exciting site in the south east of the island near the popular Haad Rin Beach. After five years of taking diamond drill core samples the geologists have been able to now pinpoint huge reserves of gold ore that will be extracted over the next five to ten years. Massive reserves of copper and tin are also expected to be extracted from the site.
Fugitive US Citizen Kelly Lynn Miller
An American woman apprehended on a secluded Thai holiday island after six years on the run has been linked to an unregistered drug treatment program being operated on another Thai holiday island.
A police officer in the Thai province of Krabi told Phuketwan today that Alabama exotic dancer Kelly Lynn Miller, 36, had been working secretly under another name for a detox centre.
The link to Miller, 36, was made by British investigative journalist Andrew Drummond, who has been reporting on the use of the hallucinogenic drug Ibogaine on Koh Phangan, where an Australian man died in mysterious circumstances last year.
Andrew Drummond leaving Thailand
Sawadee Khrap & welcome back to Koh Phangan Island News – The one and only news magazine reporting the awful truth 😉
British journalist Andrew Drummond has quit Thailand after 25 years covering Southeast Asia from the Thai capital Bangkok.
That was the headline I received yesterday via various social network channels and to actually be honest, it wasn’t that big of a surprise to me.
I have been following the work of Andrew some time now, especially since he also covered my story of the Original Koh Phangan Gunshot Attack back in March 2009.
Koh Phangan Full Moon Party in January 2015 may attract up to 40.000 party goers
Many foreign tourists have extended their stay on Koh Phangan island in Surat Thani to join the popular Full Moon party, which is expected to draw about 40,000 party-goers on Sunday, a senior tourism officer said on Saturday.
The atmosphere on Hat Rin beach in tambon Ban Tai in Koh Phangan district was lively on Saturday, with tourists, particularly foreigners, sunbathing on the white beach and swimming.
Most foreign visitors opted to extend their stay on the island to participate in the monthly all-night Full Moon party, a dance music festival on the beach, while local New Year revellers started to return to Bangkok and their home provinces.
