August 5th 2008 official delegates from the villages of Baan Tai, Baan Nuea and Baan Nok submitted their second official complaint about the Shiva Moon Party at the Administration District Office on Koh Phangan.

The first official complaint was already submitted in Jan / Feb 2007 but due to financial benefits for the Koh Phangan Police & District Chief no efforts were shown to investigate in a solution to the problem caused by Shiva Moon Party organizers and the resulting all night long noise disturbance for the people living in the surrounding villages.

Koh Phangan Police & District Chief were then finally officially decommissioned in late April 2007 due to the general lack of interest in their duty and the failure to arrest suspects in murder cases, including the fatal shooting of a former kamnan of Koh Phangan Island.

Both, police and district chief of Koh Pha-Ngan Island were then replaced in May 2007 to bring back order and safety to the island of madness, also known as Koh Pha-Ngan Paradise Island.

The villagers of Baan Tai, Baan Nuea & Baan Nok village then finally submitted their second request to the ‘new & un-corrupted’ police and district chief of Koh Phangan on August 5th 2008 at the monthly ‘pratjum’ meeting at the administration district office.

About 120 signatures from Thai citizens (approx. 90% of the people) living in the surrounding areas of the Shiva Moon Party Zone were then collected by village delegates and a formal complaint was again submitted to finally investigate into a solution regarding the all night long noise disturbance caused by the Shiva Moon Party organizers.

The official complaint submitted to the administration office simply states that the villages of Baan Tai, Baan Nuea & Baan Nok are residential areas and not an all night long party zone! People deserve the right to sleep every night and that Shiva Moon Party zone should be finally relocated to a more remote location.

Otherwise Shiva Moon Party has to be closed at 12 a.m. in accordance with the Thai law so local village people could get their deserved night of sleep.

Strange fact actually is that the official Thai law has very strict rules and guidelines concerning night life activity in the Kingdom of Thailand. Thai law states that night life activity has to be closed at 12 a.m. midnight, though special permissions can be requested from local authorities to extend the opening time up to 2 a.m.

Koh Phangan Island officials somehow seem to interpret the Thai law in a quite different context resulting in all night long noise disturbing Full Moon type parties spread all over the island.

Finally worth noting is the general misunderstanding from the local party organizers that the ‘other people’ want to shut down all the parties and leaving the party organizers with no more monthly income.

The truth actually is that local village people just ask for a solution which benefits both parties involved. An official “party zone” was suggested many times in the past. Instead of staging the party events in or near the central villages of Baan Tai, Baan Nuea & Baan Nok, party organizers or even the local administration officials could get together and carve out an official “party zone” area in the dense jungles environs some distance away. Choosing a spot behind natural hillside would lower the noise and finally party organizers could satisfy their financial souls every single night while local village folks could enjoy their sleep every single night. One solution fits all!

So far no efforts have been shown and two weeks after the submission of the Shiva Moon Party complaint Koh Phangan’s district administration and police officials still remain quiet and no public statement has been announced.

So it yet remains to be proven that the new & un-corrupted district and police chief of Koh Phangan Island are willing to bring back order, safety & happiness to all the locals instead of bending the law or turning a blind eye on the situation for the benefit of a handful of people and their financial advantages while the majority suffers a constant lack of sleep.

It’s not at all a “general misunderstanding” to shut down all (what they call) parties.
In fact this is the only solution to get rid of this nightly noise-terror in the residential area of Baan Nuea, Baan Nok and Baan Tai. Actually my family is quite disappointed this whole action is only pointed against “Shiva Moon Party”. There are so many people who are kept sleepless every 3 nights (!!!) by “Blackmoon Culture”, “Halfmoon Festival”, as well as “Jungle Experience”. The problem is not caused by only one organizer. The reputation of being a regional drug hub, rising crime, massive corruption and anarchy in our small community is caused by all the above mentioned. All of them attract people who do not good for our present and much more important, for our future, our kids! Keep our village clean of all this disturbances!
Either stop ALL (!!!) these illegal, nightlong events consequently, or centralize them all in haad rin, which is lost anyway to excessive drugs and alcohol abuse already.

    Shiva Moon Party and (!!!)
    Blackmoon Culture and (!!!)
    Halfmoon Festival and (!!!)
    Jungle Experience

    out of our village!

Your blatantly a local anyway how stupid do u think the people that read this sight are? Actually dont answer that question:) No parties no tourists! as said before on this sight people will just go koh samet/chang instead cheaper, nearer to bangers, less crime or even go samui which very similair to phangan just more developed(and less parties),but phangan be the same soon anyway, you will never get enough high end tourists in phangan to sustain the economy even if all parties stopped, not gonna happen, unless airport does and that aint gonna as island to small to have tourist numbers to sustain it! sympathise with every1 in the baan tai area and whole heartedly support a party zone but clamping down in haad riin would be economic suicide for the island!as for above comment if you booked where your staying before you got there NOT EVEN AT FULL MOON TIME(rarely anywhere full at this time) then no one to blame but yourself!! also if i was gonna spend 10 000 baht id do a bit of research first and you would have soon known what haad riin is like, phangan is a big(small compared to others but try walking it) and very beatiful island, and has more cultre than koh tao could ever have, and you stayed in worst bit,so whos laughing now ha ha;) Would also like to add the party’s though maybe not every night were ther a long time b4 most of the buisnesses and have made all the land owners in haad riin filthy rich so how any1 can moan bout haad riin is beyond me!!!
