Greetings and a happy & warm welcome to Koh Phangan Island News, still the one and only website offering fresh & up-to-date news about the Island Of Madness, formerly also known as Koh Phangan Paradise Island in the Gulf of Thailand.

After the recent massive responds to our article about the Same-Same Burger House at Hadrin Beach Koh Pha-Ngan and all the posted surreptitious advertizing about ‘John’s Place’ our Senior Food Analyst from Koh Phangan News headquarters, Fred van den StillLonelyLookingForHotChicks, went on an investigative mission to find out the awful truth about one of the islands most famous Sunday Roasts.

Welcomed by Sir John 1st and his sweaty armpits we were quite amazed by the friendly and relaxed atmosphere John’s Bar & Bistro has to offer. The ambient in the restaurant was real pleasant and warm thanks to our great hosts John 1st & John 2nd and also the wooden interior which made you feel cozy and comfortable.

Main focus of interest was the Sunday Roast which comes in different styles and flavors like chicken, pork, beef or lamb with all the trimmings and whistles starting from 195 THB. The Sunday Roast was well prepared and quickly served by Sir Chef John 2nd and the quality of the roast was good, tasty and fresh.

Though the slices of lamb were a bit too thin for my taste and the gravy tasted a bit like ready made stuff but the overall Sunday Roast dining experience at John’s Bar & Bistro was more than the average you could find on Koh Phangan Island and therefore deserves to be recommended!

So please give John’s Bar & Bistro a try if you fancy a proper British Sunday Roast while being on Koh Phangan Island.

Apart from the traditional Sunday Roast Sir John 1st has even more to offer! The extensive menu invites you for steak, salad, pasta, tapas, bar snacks, home made deserts and even authentic Thai food.

On Tuesdays John’s Bar & Bistro organizes a restaurant quiz evening, which seems to be quite popular in the U.K., and for a 150 THB (not sure about the price!) per person you’re welcome to eat as much as you can from the barbeque and participate for free in the John’s Bar & Bistro Quiz Evening of fun and laughter!

John’s Bar & Bistro can be found just a bit after Thongsala on the way to the west coast located just after the Masons Arms, another restaurant from the British Empire. Easiest way is to look out for the signs on the street. It’s just 300 meters outside from Thongsala so you simply can’t miss it.

Your posting was just mentioned to me … so I thought I would take a look … oh dear… here we go again … anti-Same Same… being skanky? Thats a word I use to describe YOU!!! … and would NOT use it to describe the Burger House which is clean and well presented ..and no I am not the owner from Same Same Burger but I do him very well and have known him for a number of years and I have to support his business in saying that this negative slagging is tiresome. You are obviously a monkey-brain as its already been explained that the cheapest burger is 110baht. There is no comparison – Johns place is a sit down restaurant with food appropiate to that and Same Same Burger is a take out place with food appropiate to that. You are obvioulsy rather demented and backward to continue this bullshit which has all been cleared up and explained clearly in previous postings and it is so tiresome to read your tirade. I think you should drop the ‘R’ add a ‘G’ and BUGGER off!(Burger off?? geddit?) I hope next time you have a sunday dinner at John’s that you choke on a Yorkshire Pudding and drown in his fucking gravy! Keep up the good work Becki:-) Oh and yeah … Up the Brits! …. tosser!

Well it’s about time you found this little gem Becki… The best Sunday lunch on the island by far… This is a superb place to eat any day of the week actually… I have never found anything to complain about, except John of course. This is a popular spot particularly on a Sunday afternoon, plan to arrive early on Sundays!

CAUTION don’t criticise spelling errors on the menu boards, that doesn’t always sit very well with Mr John (previously known as John the pie man) he made great pies too.

If you haven’t tried the Banoffee pie for dessert then you really should. It’s to die for!

The sweaty arm pits are just a response to slaving over a hot stove in the tropics preparing some fantastic British food for hungry farangs. A big thanks John for your hard work and great restaurant/bar. Can’t wait to get back there to join Fred in some food analysing and maybe a few beers to chase it down…

I’m asking me why you are all going to thailand!?!?!? You want to eat your own food, want to go shopping in a super market, you need aircondition and television, tell the thais how they have to live and work, build very strange buildings (like the english pub near thongsala) and at last destroy the nature (Haad rin) I go there because I like Thailand and the culture. But I do not need english food or lifestyle at all!
    Cheers!

Blah-blah-blah… Better you stay “farangland”, and let people who are living here -not visiting- enjoying some decent comfort food, without criticizing the way of life you’ll loved to acquire!
      To John, keep on going…

We all go to Thailand for our own reasons. The Thai culture is more important to you than it is for others and that’s okay!

You may not like English food or the life style and thats okay too. We are all different and we should all be respectful of other opinions.
