Koh Phangan tourist island declared drought zone
Surat Thani governor Chartpong Chartphuti has declared Koh Phangan district a drought-stricken zone after a two-month shortage of rainfall causing a tap water supply emergency.
In July and August, large numbers of tourists normally come to Koh Phangan Island where tens of thousands of foreigners join the Full Moon Party.
The provincial governor has set aside funds to provide water supply as initial drought relief. In the long term, the provincial waterworks authority will put in a place an effective water storage facility.
