After Muifa, Tsunami and the daily insanity here in Thailand things don’t look like they will become any better in the Land of the Smile – on the Island of Koh Phangan 😉

Maximize your profits! Or why would you pack 53 people on a speed boat to Koh Samui which only allows to carry 30 passengers on it? This would indeed be a good question to ask the captain of that speed boat but he is somehow still missing. The speed boat disaster happened early morning around 5 a.m. somewhere between Koh Phangan and Koh Samui. The boat was heading to Samui from Koh Phangan island, where thousands of backpackers and Thais gather at every full moon for an all-night alcohol and drug-fueled beach party.

“The speed boat was taking tourists back from the overnight full moon party on Phangan Island to Koh Samui and capsized at dawn, killing at least seven people!” said police officials as they were frantically searching for the missing people.

An injured Thai survivor said that the boat was so crowded passengers had to stand on board. “There was no space for me to sit and no one was offered a life vest,” he said.

Seven dead bodies have been recovered, three foreign men, one foreign woman, two Thais and one body that could not be identified. Disaster management officials said another 23 people are still missing! “We are rushing against time because the bodies will soon be swept out to the ocean,” said Police officer, Colonel K. Jaru Sangkamantorn.

“The cause of the accident was likely that the boat was overloaded, because it was not allowed to carry more than 30 passengers,” Colonel Tungkaseni said.

Meanwhile on the other side of the bay thousands of Tourists celebrated the monthly Full Moon Party Top Act on Koh Phangan Paradise Island. And as everything is in a constant flow also the Party Zone is definitely doing a bit of a change. This month I saw fights, blood and a black guy at chicken corner who wanted to kill someone he was pissed with. Also found another guy with a broken leg who ran into arguments with someone from our Hebrew community. The guys at Zoom and Vinyl went finally totally nuts and this is no wonder if you listen to the music mixed there. Giant and Massive Hardcore Brain Tumor Techno and the words PERVERSE and ABNORMAL popped up in my mind. Or was it SICK?

THINGS HAVE DEFINITELY CHANGED! WARNING!

But the sunrise was very impressive this morning and this shows me that there is always something very beautiful and lovely around us. ALWAYS 😉

I witnessed people being ‘packed’ onto these boats 2 years ago when I was at the full moon party. The boats were travelling with very little or even no lighting, hopefully now something will be done to make transport between the 2 islands safer.

Wow! We thought we were lucky last month to be at the party with our kids, having driven from Phuket the morning of the tsunami and just driven through a wave.
We were on one of those unlit, overcrowded speedboats with no life vests and a lot of people who probably couldn’t swim, driven by a lunatic…

the speed boats have been an issue for years. as far as the fights and vibe goes, you do need to be more careful these days. i much prefered the party when there were plenty of drugs kicking around and less alcohol!

the speed boats have been an issue for years. shame shame! condoleneces to people who lost friends or family. unfortunately, it’ll likely be phangan that’ll get a bad rap rather than the samui speed boat company. as far as the fights and vibe goes, you do need to be more careful these days. i much prefered the party when there were plenty of drugs kicking around and less alcohol!

Hello Pha Ngan Lovers and Mr Becky 🙂

It’s a shame for the Thaï captain of the speed boat to do not respect security rules. Make money is more important for him, than respect of human (farang) human life. Are we only money for those Thaïs ? When i read Becky with his “awful truth” reports, i think like him things change but not in the good way…
I am agree with the precedent post. There’s too much drunkers now. Things were more lazy when there was more drugs, because smokers or E-lovers , just want to party, have good time and not to fight.

According to a thai the boat captain was under influence of alcohol. Doesn’t really surprise me… the captain of Haad Rin Queen have been drunk many times aswell… one time so drunk that he barely made it through the narrow entrance between the corals to Haad Rin Pier… he just bumped around at corals… thai fishermen fleeing from their longtail boats and farangs screaming like hell. Amazing Thailand!

well … if that guy at chicken corner would have been a yellow one i would have written something about chinese people. so no matter where they come from … china, afrika, british or even thai … becki ends up being a racist all the time 😉
