Shiva Moon Party in Baan Tai Village – How corrupt are Koh Phangan’s Island Officials?
August 27th 2008, 3 weeks after the official Shiva Moon Party complaint at Koh Phangan’s local district office, delegates from Baan Nuea village were once more unable to receive any official statement from local police and district chief regarding the nightly disturbance caused by the Shiva Moon Party organizers.
More than 120 people (approx. 90%) living in the surrounding residential areas of Baan Tai, Baan Nuea & Baan Nok village signed a petition for re-locating the Shiva Moon Party Zone to a more remote location. This request was submitted in August 5th 2008 to Koh Phangan’s administration district office at their monthly ‘pratjum’ meeting.
Until now the district and police chief of Koh Pha-Ngan still constantly deny any official statements regarding the Shiva Moon Party issue but finally have announced that the district office actually is not in any way responsible for any party permission issued in the past.
Koh Phangan’s district officials then referred to yet another office, the so called ‘thee-saa-baan’ office, which seems to be responsible for issuing permissions regarding any all night long party activity on the island of madness.
Furthermore Baan Nuea village delegates invited the district chief of Koh Pha-Ngan to a charming visit in Baan Nuea village during the night of August 27th Shiva Moon Party event to finally receive a full understanding of the current Shiva Moon Party situation.
But Koh Phangan District Officials thankfully announced that they unfortunately will not be able to participate and politely denied such a request.
Meanwhile during the night of August 27th 2008 the Shiva Moon Party all night long techno noise disturbance continued like nothing had happened though official complaints have been submitted since weeks at Koh Pha-Ngan’s district office.
The Shiva Moon Party closed at 9 a.m. the following morning and again simply just proofs the uselessness of any Koh Phangan Island officials and the general lack of interest in their duty.
So … shit goes from top to the bottom and therefore Koh Phangan’s new Police and new District Chief finally receive the status of being TOTALLY CORRUPT like most of the people here already suggested.
Worth mentioning is the growing dislike amongst the population regarding the Shiva Moon Party issue and also the growing activism to do something about this situation to finally get rid of the corrupt island officials behind.
Baan Nuea village delegates further announced that they will not give up and look for other ways to bring this corrupt situation to an end.

Well, I arrived earlir this week (not near full moon I must add!) in Koh Phangan having pre paid 2,000baht per night (for a weeks stay) for a room at Tommys resort on haadrin beach … and I had to check out of my room after 2 nights as i couldnt sleep at all!!! here is a beautiful resort with amazing pool on an amazing beach BUT there are two HORRIBLE bars on the mountainside playing crazy loud music until 7AM every morning!!! Its so loud no one can sleep – the people both rooms each side of mine also vacated after one night!!! The worst thing is there is NO PEOPLE in these bars so why are they playing this music so LOUD and so late??? I dont undertsand it … then the other end of the beach (which is horrible) … there’s a bar called Drop Inn also playing horrible loud music all night with no customers in it !! This is a lovely beach so why are they doing this? I and many others will never return to Haadrin … these resorts are lovely but no one will stay. I have lost money but I dont care beacuse I will NEVER come back to KOh Phangnan as long as these STUPID bars keep doing this!! – I am now on Koh Tao and it is AMAZING!!! Relaxing, busy and fun .. and the bars close around 1pm. Someone here also told me the law in Thailand is 12pm for bars to close with 2pm if you ask for a extension so how is it that this bullshit of all night music is allowed on Koh Phangan. I understand for 1 night full moon or even 3 nights at that period but not every night of the month even when no customers!!! ITS CRAZY!!! This place in Haadrin must be losing so much money with customers leaving ….
With your experience of all night long music resulting in 2 sleepless nights (not only for you !!!), you can probably imagine how we, the villagers of Bantai are feeling. We, our old parents, our kids have to suffer this nightly terror every 3 nights.
The difference between you and us is, that you can leave your hotel if you cannot sleep. We are living in this village for generations already, this is our land, our house, our family. We were here long time before this anarchy started and we can not just leave our home!
this is why we are fighting this massive corruption on the island and try to offer alternative solutions.

I dont think the solution is to try and make Haadrin the place for all the parties – I understand the Ban tai people have issues with the Shiva Party but what about haadrin and whats going on EVERY night!!! – there are so many nice resorts being constructed for a better class customer than the simple backpacker who doesnt spend any money in the resorts and goes to the 7/11 to buy drinks and food. I dont understand how 4 bars can control the business in this small town – surely someone with power and money can stop them??? One of them The Drop In has its own high class resort but thats the other side of Haadrin where it is quiet .. so they dont give a shit about making noise all night in thier bar on the beach till 7am and making all the other resorts on that beach lose money!!! Maybe it is a conspiracy – just look at both Drop In and Coral Bungalows with their noisy taxi advertising – their resorts are far away from the noise they make on the streets of Haadrin and their bars destrying turism on Haadrin Beach .. so maybe the customers coem to theirs away from the beach noise??! Why doesnt someone with power take out these bars??? Drop inn, Cactus, the two on mushroom mountain … and I heard there’s even one called Da Club breaking the noise laws and closing down laws and that is owned by a Lawyer on the island!! Madness!!!

Stay somewhere else, its that simple. KPG has lots of quiet resorts outside of the TINY strip of beach at Haadrin…I’m sure you knew its the party capital of KPG before you went away 🙂 haaa
Before you write big words, read carefully: good nights sleep is wanted in the village (residential area) of bantai!!! We know that haad rin is the party mile of kpg, that’s why we want the shivamoon-, blackmoon-, halfmoon-, and jungle party moved to there, out of bantai!

It seems like non of you are happy 🙁 …. so if in ban tai, haadrin or wherever so why not you all get together to stop all parties everywhere then you will all stop complaining. I moved to Koh Phangan in 2011 from Samui and i live in Baan Tai. If i had known how corrupt this island really was compared to Koh Samui and many other places in Thailand i would never ever moved her. Koh Phangan districts officials are just a bunch of overpayed lazy bunch of incompetent morons that does NOTHING to improve this island in anyway. They just don´t care as long as they get their salary and can sleep through the day at the office. Just look at the pathetic hospital here in Koh Phangan or the never ending problems with the electric going out or the…..the list just goes on and on but nothing is done or will be done. The hope for a relocation of the half moon party is just a hope, a fading hope as time goes on and the crappy music keeps me and my family awake at night and all those who live around this pathetic excuse for a party. No, we locals have to work together on all of these problems. It´s time to stand up and say we had enough with this crap and with the corruption from the lazy no good officials. We should all just stop taking this crap year after year and set the foot down and force these officials to do the work their payed to do or else they can get the fuck of this island of or we will throw their asses in the sea. No more bullshit.
